Service Description

Mandatory Training: Applicants for a Maryland Wear and Carry permit RENEWAL must complete a state-approved training course. The requirement is 8 hours for renewals. Curriculum Content: The training includes instruction on Maryland firearm laws, home firearm safety, handgun mechanisms, and operations, with topics extending to conflict de-escalation, anger management, and suicide prevention. It also covers laws related to armed trespass, areas where firearm possession is prohibited despite having a permit, procedures for reporting lost or stolen firearms, and recognition of firearms and accessories banned under state and federal law. Proficiency Requirement: Trainees must pass a shooting proficiency demonstration with at least 70% accuracy, with security personnel shooting 50 rounds at 25 yards and other applicants 25 rounds at 15 yards. Certification and Approval: After completing the training, candidates still require Mandatory Training: As of October 1, 2023, applicants for a Maryland Wear and Carry permit must complete a state-approved training course. The requirement is 16 hours for new permits and 8 hours for renewals.
